The Extraland film: a campaign with people at its centre

Journalist Rafaela Stylianou on one minute of film that gave the leading role to the human being rather than the house — and why that is rare in Cypriot property advertising.

OpinionBrand3 min

This is the moving campaign by Extraland Estates — the kind of campaign we have not seen in Cyprus for a long time. In barely a minute it managed to deliver the strongest possible message: messages and feelings we often forget.

Although the company builds and sells homes, neither the house nor the sale took the lead role. The human being did.

We have forgotten how to dream

In this era of glittering shop windows, expensive cars and million-and-a-half-euro houses, it seems we have all forgotten the most important thing — the one that costs absolutely nothing. We have forgotten how to dream.

Moving from past to future, the campaign brings to the surface moments and emotions that we sadly pass by in our daily lives, always running to catch something. Do you remember? Do you remember the last time you truly lived a moment with your person? With your family?

Stop running

Years ago I read, among other things, the following: "And at eighty you look at photographs of your children and realise you did not manage to hold them as much as you wanted, you did not manage to play with them, because you had to run and they had to run too. You look back and realise you did not manage anything — not to see your friends, not to understand your parents, not to fall in love, not to dance, not to do the things you thought mattered when you were a child."

Stop running. Stand still. Why do we run, in the end? Nobody ever told us.

This campaign comes to remind us that it is fine not to run. It is fine to spend time with our people. It is fine to fall in love, to love, to live, to laugh. Life is a gift; life is our moments.

Frequently asked questions

What is the campaign trying to say?
That a home is judged by the life it makes possible, and that a family should be able to see honestly what is available before they visit.
Are the homes shown real?
The campaign is grounded in our real developments in Sotira; availability, status and pricing are always published from our operational system rather than from campaign material.
Where can I see what is available?
On the available-homes page, which reads live status and pricing from our operational inventory.
